Hi there! My name is Maria and I am 24 years old and currently reside in Virginia Beach, Va. Welcome to my blog!
I graduated from Northeastern University in 2010 with a degree in English and minor in journalism. After graduation, I moved to Florida to live with my then-boyfriend, now-husband. In Florida I worked as a staff writer at an amazing local newspaper called the Sarasota Observer.
In April 2011 I moved to Washington, D.C. and spent a year working full-time as a personal trainer at a large gym and a small boutique-style training studio. I had played sports all my life, but my passion for fitness really began in college when I fell in love with group fitness classes and got certified to teach group fitness and Pilates. I taught classes at my school’s gym all through college and loved it, and I missed it terribly after I graduated.
Being a full-time trainer was a great experience: I was lucky enough to have the most amazing clients and some awesome co-workers and bosses from whom I learned a ton. Although I loved what I was doing, I stretched myself too thin and burned myself out. In that year I trained and taught at multiple gyms, and at one point was training 50 hours per week and teaching 10 group fitness classes on top of that.
In April 2012 I re-located to Virginia Beach for my husband’s job and decided to take a break from training and go back to my literary roots. I now work from home as a copy editor for the same newspaper I worked for back in Florida.
I should mention that by home, I mean the hotel we are living in for the summer. My husband is in the Marine Corps. and because of crazy military rules he is required to live on-base in a hotel right now. That’s the life of a military wife for ya!
I discovered healthy living blogs about six months ago and in April 2012 I finally decided to combine my two biggest passions – fitness and writing – and start my own blog. The Cupcake Chronicles follows experiences related to fitness, food, healthy living and my everyday life.
My hobbies include working out, cooking, reading and going to the beach. I started doing CrossFit in April 2012 and LOVE it so far. I’m only a month in but I don’t think I will ever stop. It is an awesome program and I love talking about it, so you will see a lot of CrossFit-related posts on here 🙂
I also hang out with this handsome fellow a whole lot:
